BROWNSTONE CYCLONE | 2019
This historic 1899 brownstone’s six-year transformation masterfully preserved its architectural integrity while infusing modern functionality and comfort. The renovation carefully balanced the restoration of original features, such as moldings, window frames, and a tin ceiling, with contemporary updates necessary for today’s living standards. The exterior facelift maintained the building’s historic character, with thoughtful enhancements like noise-reducing windows and a refurbished front stairway echoing the original brownstone aesthetic. Inside, the reconfiguration of spaces was strategic; the parlor level was redesigned to host the main living areas, capitalizing on the abundant natural light and lofty ceilings, thereby creating an inviting and open environment.
On the garden level, bedrooms were thoughtfully placed to utilize the quieter, more secluded part of the house, ensuring privacy and tranquility. The ambitious extension at the rear added significant living space without compromising the building’s historic essence, blending the old with the new in a seamless manner. Outdoor spaces were also reimagined, featuring a new patio and raised garden beds, enhancing the home’s connection with its natural surroundings. This renovation stands as a testament to the dedication required to rejuvenate historic properties, striking a delicate balance between preserving their storied past and equipping them for the future, ensuring they remain cherished homes in the urban fabric.
